In a piece titled “The 25 Most Controversial Movies Ever,” Entertainment Weekly places Disney’s traditionally animated classic Aladdin in the 25th spot, making it the only animated film in the list. The reason for such is revealed in the following statement: “The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee balked at a lyric describing the film’s Arabian setting as a land ‘where they cut off your ear if they don’t like your face.’ Result? The studio dubbed out the lyric for subsequent releases.” Interestingly, in an Internet Movie Database Daily Poll of “…which of these movies do you find… not so controversial?,” 59.8% of voters voiced their disapproval of Aladdin’s inclusion in the countdown.
