Cartoon Brew reminds that this evening, “A Salute to Norman McLaren” will be held, courtesy of The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences. Hosted by animation critic Charles Solomon, the event will offer some of McLaren’s finest work created for the National Film Board of Canada. Among the eight films to be screened are Neighbors (1952), A Chairy Tale (1957), Begone Dull Care (1949), Stars and Stripes (1940) and Blinkity Blank (1955). Preceding the evening will be a panel discussion, featuring Chris Hinton, animator and former colleague of McLaren; Christine Panushka, animation professor for the University of Southern California; Ishu Patel, animator and McLaren colleague; and David Silverman, director for The Simpsons. The Academy’s official website has further information on this noteworthy tribute.
