Disney/Vanguard’s Valiant opens today in 2,014 theatres, a surprisingly low number. Ten other films, including the documentary March of the Penguins (which has been out for 9 weeks already), are in more theatres. Box Office Mojo predicts a 4th place finish this weekend, with the film taking in $8.2 million. Valiant doesn’t fare much better with Rotten Tomato critics. The film has a 26% reading on the Tomatometer, with only 11 of 42 reviewers giving it a favorable rating. The consensus is that “Valiant has a good collection of voice talents, but the story is strictly by-the-numbers”.
