Although Disney’s much requested 1978 animated featurette The Small One, directed by Don Bluth, has been available on DVD internationally for a couple of years now (most notably on the UK disc compilation Countdown To Christmas), it has finally been announced that the 25-minute film will debut on DVD in the US as part of Classic Cartoon Favorites Volume 8, due in the third wave of the series, to be released September 27 2005. The disc will also include the classic short Pluto’s Christmas Tree and Mickey’s Christmas Carol. Transfers are expected to be full-frame crop jobs. Ultimate Disney also carries the newly released announcement for The Muppet Show: Season One DVD box set, in stores from August 9 2005. Also due that day is The Muppets Wizard Of Oz, coming to disc in an extended version with 20 minutes of new footage (though the full-frame cropped image will lose a few sales – let’s hope that’s a mistake).
