Jim Hill Media writes that though the film is not bad, The Muppets’ Wizard of Oz is being touted as a “middling affair” from several critics. However, the site writes that this may not be the fault of the movie’s production team. Apparently, the team was forced to make last minute changes to the film’s teleplay, as they had to remove several references to the 1939, Judy Garland-starring Wizard of Oz. These changes were made in an effort to avoid any legal trouble from Ted Turner. Nonetheless, The Muppets’ Wizard of Oz is still being heavily promoted, seeing as how the film will help determine the future of any upcoming Muppet films. The Muppets’ Wizard of Oz will air on ABC this Friday at 8/7c, before being released to DVD on August 9th. Previews for the film can be found at the official ABC website for the movie.
