Arriving in stores today are three re-releases of past animated favorites. First, Tarzan arrives in a 1-disc Special Edition DVD package. Though reviews for the 1999 Disney classic have been very positive, this particular DVD edition of the film has collected disappointed buzz, with Ultimate Disney commenting, “Thanks to some questionable last-minute maneuvering on Disney’s part, this Special Edition isn’t nearly as special as consumers and fans had hoped.” Likewise, the “New Groove Edition” DVD of The Emperor’s New Groove holds only 1-disc, despite the film’s success commerically and with critics.
Lastly, Fox Home Entertainment is releasing a 2-disc “Family Fun Edition” DVD of Ferngully: The Last Rainforest. With the traditionally animated movie receiving generally positive reviews, its DVD contains such features as a commentary by Director Bill Kroyer, Coordinating Art Director Susan Kroyer, and Art Director Ralph Eggleston; “Seed of the Story: Script to Screen Comparison” with optional commentary by Screenwriter Jim Cox; and an original 1992 featurette.
