The official site for the Laurence Olivier Awards has the nominations for the 2005 awards ceremony. Within the list, Mary Poppins picked up nine nominations, including Best New Musical, Best Actress in a Musical (Laura Michelle Kelly- “Mary Poppins”), Best Actor in a Musical (Gavin Lee- “Bert”), Best Performance in a Supporting Role in a Musical (David Haig- “George”), Best Director (Richard Eyre and Matthew Bourne), Best Theatre Choreographer (Matthew Bourne and Stephen Mear), Best Lighting Design (Howard Harrison), Best Set Design (Bob Crowley), and Best Costume Design (Bob Crowley). Established in 1976, the Laurence Olivier Awards are the “most prestigious awards in London theatre and the highlight of the theatrical year.” The awards will be handed out on Sunday, February 20th.
