Reuters indicates that Madagascar is looking to DreamWorks’ upcoming comedy of the same name as to help increase tourisim, similar to the way that Out of Africa increased tourism for Kenya. Henry Kartagener, president of a New York-based travel consultancy, warns, however, that Madagascar will only benefit from the movie if the island is heavily marketed in travel agencies and tourist brochures as the film enters theaters next month. Meanwhile, DreamWorks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg reportedly told analyists last month that Madagascar has performed better with test audiences than Shrek. Madagascar will open in theaters on May 27, 2005.
