Video Business reports on the growing trend of DVD discs featuring interactive games and elements designed to promote upcoming theatrical and home video releases. Front of the pack is DreamWorks’ recent Madagascar Animal Trivia, which will be followed up by a Shrek activity disc in the fall, and is described as “the first of several deals with entertainment companies tied to upcoming children’s films”.

In related DreamWorks DVD news, the company has, “for the second time in two months, stunned Wall Street, sending studio shares plummeting Monday and prompting leading investors to postpone indefinitely a planned follow-on stock offering”, based on poor disc sales of Shark Tale and Shrek 2. DWs is also the subject of an informal SEC inquiry into trading patterns in shares and handling of previous disclosures regarding weaker than expected earnings and has revealed that it has also been the target of six lawsuits in recent weeks filed against it and “certain officers and directors, alleging violations of securities laws”, which DWs say are “without merit”. The Guardian Online has more on that story, as well as the lower than hoped for expectations on Pixar’s The Incredibles sales and DreamWorks’ aims for their upcoming theatrical debut for Wallace And Gromit.
