The Star Tribune reports that the Walt Disney Co. is looking into a unique way of spreading its media content, with the news being discovered from a currently pending patent application. Apparently, Disney is considering a plan such as this: Upon buying a meal at a restaurant, one will receive a portable media player and an electronic code that warrants a partial download of a movie, video or other media file. That download may be made in the restaurant. Then, with each subsequent restaurant visit, one can earn more downloadable data, until he or she finally downloads the entire movie or game. The technology could take quite a while to reach restaurants, though, as patent applications take an average of 30 months to acquire final approval.
