Disney has had major success on the stage with traditionally animated classics like Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King capturing the hearts of audiences and critics alike. Now the group is hoping to do it again with Tarzan based on the 1999 hit film and Edgar Rice Burroughs novel. Using the same formula that produced prior stage hits, Phil Collins will return to create the score for the musical. His song “You’ll be in my Heart” from Tarzan earned him an Oscar in 2000. A casting search is ongoing for the heartthrob who will play the ape man. Yahoo! News reports that the show is currently planned to launch on Broadway next spring.
