From August 20 – 21, the 90’s animated series of Batman and Superman will each be featured in five-hour marathons on Boomerang, Cartoon Network’s sister channel for classic animation. Afterward, the two series will appear during “Boomeraction”, a block of action-adventure animation running from midnight to 1am. For more info on the subject, please click “More”.

Caped Crusader and Man of Steel Each to Launch with Five-Hour Marathons on August 20th and 21st, 8pm – 1am

Saturday, August 20th, and Sunday, August 21st, mark the date when two of DC Comics’ most renowned superheroes, Batman and Superman, arrive to Boomerang, Cartoon Network’s exclusive 24-hour, commercial-free television home to classic cartoons, each to enjoy a five-hour welcoming marathon running from 8pm to 1am (ET). Batman: The Animated Series (1992-94) will be spotlighted on Saturday night, followed by Superman: The Animated Series (1996-97) on Sunday night. The titans in tights will then take up back-to-back residence in Boomerang’s Boomeraction block (12 – 1am), a nightly tribute to classic animated action-adventure programming.

“This launch event is a great opportunity for our viewers to determine for themselves which is more powerful, black underpants or red underpants,” said Marc Buhaj, vice president of programming and scheduling for both Cartoon Network and Boomerang. “On a more serious note, these editions of Batman and Superman – both from the remarkable animator Bruce Timm – are widely considered the best animated series depicting the Dark Knight and the Man of Steel. The Boomerang marathons will showcase what we believe are some of the best episodes from these two series. We’re thrilled to bring both programs in an uninterrupted format to our late-night schedule. This event cements Boomerang’s Boomeraction as a premier destination for classic action brands.”

Batman: The Animated Series takes a dramatic approach to the Dark Knight, observing his self-imposed duality within the Batcave, situated deep below the Wayne estate. The cartoon series features a dramatic portrayal of Bruce Wayne, a man who devotes his life to wiping out crime following the death of his parents at the hands of a criminal.

In the 1996 series Superman: The Animated Series, the Man of Steel, alias mild-mannered reporter Clark Kent, defends his native Metropolis. He matches wits with classic comic-book villains Braniac, Lex Luthor, Parasite and the Toyman, as well as a new gang of villains including Superman’s evil clone, Bizzaro, in this half-hour series of adventures based on the popular DC Comics series.
