DVD Toons continue their in-depth appraisal of animation on DVD with a full look at Mickey In Color 2, due out May 18. “These shorts are simply eye-popping, vibrant and detailed unlike any previous versions I’ve ever seen”, says Ben Simon, “while disc two is even better: Mickey’s three recent featurettes are presented in anamorphic widescreen! For those coming to all this on DVD for the first time, there’s a more than a fair amount [of extras] to be getting on with, but for long-time fans and LaserDisc collectors, there’s a strong sense of déjà vu in store. However, the fact that some are duplicates from previous releases should do nothing to deter one from picking up the collection. Though somewhat padded out, the widescreen handling of the recent films is an absolute treat and well worth the price of admission alone”.
