Animation Insider has a report on Disney’s plans to release sequels based on Pixar films even without Pixar’s aid. According to Dick Cook, Walt Disney Studios Chairman, “We will nurture and grow these franchises with new stories.” If they can do it with the same verve and creative flair as Pixar more power to them but Pixar will obviously have left an impressive record for Disney to live up to.
This may, however, be speaking a little too soon because the latest news, as reported by The Big Cartoon DataBase, is that Pixar itself is making a bid to buy The Walt Disney Company. If such a thing actually takes place it’ll definitely have an effect on the production of sequels. There will still be some but they wouldn’t be produced as often and there would be a higher attention to quality. It looks like things are only going to get more interesting . . .
