Broadway.com reports that Disney Theatricals has named well known European director (and Broadway newcomer) Francesca Zambello as the director for the Broadway musical version of The Little Mermaid. Zambello worked previously for Disney on the theme park stage show Aladdin. She is best known for her work in opera and theatre, where her productions have won three Olivier Awards for Best New Opera Production and an Evening Standard Award for Best Musical. Disney also announced that George Tsypin will handle scenic design. Tsypin and Zambello have collaborated twice in the past. No dates for start of production or show premiere have been announced.
