‘Monkeyboy12’ in the Animated News Forum points to an intresting story at Yahoo that rounds up the box office numbers for this summer’s big – and flop – releases. Leading the pack is Shrek 2, with $436.7 million in the bank, ahead on Spider-Man 2‘s $370m and Harry Potter‘s $247m on his third adventure. Bringing up the rear were solid $100m+ earners, the special effects-filled blockbusters The Day After Tomorrow, Troy and the exceptionally entertaining I, Robot, while the big busts of the season included another superhero flick, Catwoman, and a slew of misjudged Disney epics, the most public failure being Around The World In 80 Days. Counting all the hits and the misses, this summer’s selection has proven to be a winner all told, setting a box office record of just under $4 billion!
