Comedy Central has been green-lighting some pretty daring projects lately. What could be quirkier than Crank Yankers, a show about demented puppets who make prank phone calls? What could be edgier than Chappelle’s Show, a racially charged half hour with some of the best parodies on TV? And what could be more unusual than I’m with Busey, a reality series about the adventures of the spaced-out actor? Still hungry for offbeat programming? Perhaps Shorties Watchin’ Shorties has what it takes to satisfy your appetite. Executive produced by Denis Leary and Jim Shapiro, this loopy animated series fuses elements of Crank Yankers with Premium Blend, a Comedy Central series that showcases the best up-and-coming comics in the business. The premise: Rough Crowd with Colin Quinn regulars Nick DiPaolo and Patrice Oneal lend their voices to two wise-cracking cartoon babies, who spend their days watching television. The animated vignettes on their TV set illustrate the stand-up routines of well-known comics. Tonight’s episode uses shtick by Dane Cook, Jonathan Corbett, Janeane Garofalo, Elon Gold, Gilbert Gottfried, Richard Jeni, Leary, Jay Mohr, Jeffrey Ross, Brian Regan and Joey Vega. While the results are often tasteless and profane, they’re always hilarious and clever….
