As a few early looks at this year’s Walt Disney Treasures line of DVDs begin to surface online, it’s surprising to see that no-one has commented on the “Roy Disney signature” situation. With a review copy of Mickey Mouse In Living Color Volume Two having turned up, we can confirm that Roy’s signature DOES appear on the wraparound strip in this new wave.
There is a change to the usual look however: instead of numbered, embossed tins, the new packaging presents a standard, non-numbered case, with the “Limited Series” (as described by an added front sticker) being individually marked inside with a “Serialized Certificate Of Authenticity”. The Walt Disney Treasures branding remains embossed as before, and raised on the tins themselves.
So, with Roy’s name intact, and the lack of numbered tins, it looks like the Mouse House’s original reason as to why these releases were delayed (so as to meet consumer demand) actually rings true.
