Putting the awful new feature film (which opened in the UK last week with a poor $2m take) behind us, Rand Cyrenne at DVD Toons looks at the Anderson Supermarionettes proper, with MGM’s new release of the Thunderbirds: International Rescue Giftset, a stunning and feature-packed collection of the two 1960s theatrical outings. “MGM has done an admirable job, and there is a wealth of documentary material. The digital remastering rivals the work done on the fabulous TV show sets”, says Rand. “The picture remains free of practically any physical artifacts. MGM offers both movies in remastered Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 tracks, and the results are thrilling. Kudos should be given for including the original mono tracks for the purists too, and special effort was made to give a fun package to the fans”. A region two edition of the set is also availabe. The Thunderbirds movie (AKA Spy Kids 4) opens in the US this Friday.
