Following the Dark Horizons story that Universal’s adaptation of Mike Kunkel’s Herobear And The Kid comic books had been cancelled, we have had word from someone who was at last weekend’s Atlanta Comicon, where Kunkel was also present. “After I was done praising his artwork and imagination, I asked him about the Herobear movie’s status. He told me the Universal deal was dead in the water. They wanted him to make to many creative compromises with the characters, turning it into a PG-13 style movie. If you’ve ever read the series, you know it’s one of the few comics that is completely G-rated, and can easily appeal to kids and adults. However, the Herobear license is being considered by…Nickelodeon. Mike said they were looking at going with Nick, either as a feature or a possible TV series. He seemed much happier with Nickelodeon and the way they were treating his creations”. The source does point out that he has nothing real to back this up, so until an official announcement, we’ll have to wait and see, but at least there’s some kind of word on the project.
