Variety reports that Vanguard Animation’s John H. Williams, who brought William Steig’s Shrek to DreamWorks, has obtained the rights to The Zabajaba Jungle from the author’s estate. Published in 1991, the book is the story of a young boy who must travel through a jungle to find his captured parents. Vanguard Animation’s films in production include the comedy Valiant, with Ewan McGregor voicing the title character, a wood pigeon who joins the Royal Air Force Homing Pigeon Service during WWII, and Happily N’Ever After, starring Sigourney Weaver, Freddie Prinze Jr. and Sarah Michelle Gellar. The next toon feature to go into production at Vanguard will be Space Chimps. The company’s CG-animated pics are produced at its dedicated studio, Vanguard Animation UK.
