The Home Theater Forum has given a tough but fair review for the upcoming Brother Bear DVD. Says reviewer David Boulet, “I don’t think I’m saying anything too surprising or controversial to suggest that Brother Bear isn’t quite up to the caliber of other modern Disney classics we’ve come to know and love (think The Lion King or Aladdin).” He gives the picture, sound, and extras good marks, as well. Those of us Original Aspect Ratio freaks will be pleased to know that the second disc contains the film in 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen, which is “windowboxed” to 1.85:1 for the first 24 minutes, before the picture then “expands” to reflect Kenai’s view of the world as a bear. Disney keeps their integrity in one way, it’s good to see!
