At one point included among Disney’s line up of animated stars (well, he was an inanimate object come to life!), it seems the next Herbie movie has picked up pace on its was to theaters. Chris Gardner of The Hollywood Reporter writes: “Fresh from the Sundance Film Festival premiere of D.E.B.S., her feature directorial debut for Screen Gems, helmer Angela Robinson has signed to direct the remake of Herbie The Love Bug for the Walt Disney Company and Robert Simonds. With Robinson now on board, the project is gearing up for a mid-June start. Disney has been shepherding a remake of Herbie for years, most recently hiring writing duo Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant to do a page-one rewrite on their previous version”. This new adaptation of the classic car comedy sees the lovable Volkswagen entering the NASCAR race circuit.
