Both DVD Toons and a new review piece up at the Toon Zone site suggest that Joe Dante’s recent Looney Tunes movie is well worth catching on disc. “Warner Bros. has a lot riding on the release. Bigger movies with more hype dropped an anvil on Back In Action‘s [theatrical] sales and reports of near-empty theaters dismayed the studio. Despite critical praise, it seems that the critics were the only ones watching”, writes Matthew Hunter for the Zone. “If the DVD is unsuccessful, it could spell trouble for future projects like this movie with classic cartoon stars, and that would be a real shame”. DVD Toons adds: “Back In Action proves that there’s plenty more life in them thar characters, and hopefully the box-office numbers won’t mean that it’s ‘That’s all, folks!’ for a long, long time yet”.
