Ain’t It Cool News has done it again with a first look at The Corpse Bride, which showed up at the Licensing 2004 show in New York. Another delightfully macabre stop-motion feature from Tim Burton, and produced at Will Vinton Studios in Oregon, The Corpse Bride is tenatively slated for October 2005. The template of the story is based on a 19th century Russian folk tale, in which a young man accidentally marries the corpse of a murdered bride, who is then resurrected, expecting her new (living) husband to love her. This tale has its roots in historical facts, as anti-Semitic gangs would often attack Jewish wedding parties, killing and burying the bride in her wedding gown. According to Greg’s Previews, “It’s possible that there will be a good deal of embellishment to that basic idea… It’s not really that difficult to guess that it will have imagery that’s dark and morose, but actually have a tender heart underneath. The nature of the story sort of makes that obvious.” Click the “More…” link to see the image in its entirety.
