Endorsed by Yahoo Shopping, DVD MegaPacks.com offers re-packaged disc collections of various public domain movies – some of which are quite rare and worth seeking out. Of special interest to animation fans may be this Cartoon Classics collection, which features 100 original animated shorts. Though the site describes the 12-DVD set as “A Treasury of Cartoon Fun” and points out that each cartoon has been “Digitally Remastered for DVD”, one must remember that these are PD prints and could be in any shape. However, the set retails at just $29.95 – a total of only thirty cents a cartoon! Featuring such characters as Popeye (the later Famous Studios shorts), Betty Boop, Little Lulu, Mutt And Jeff and the original Tom And Jerry (be aware that they are no cat and mouse – these are 1930s cartoons from Van Beuren Studios) as well as some early Ub Iwerks shorts. Check out the full list at the link above, plus some of their other offers, including a Sci-Fi pack and a Family collection which includes early Keaton and Chaplin shorts, the original Sabu version of The Jungle Book, plus the Fleischer’s 1939 animated feature Gulliver’s Travels!
