Animation historian and writer Jerry Beck, whose Cartoon Research continues to be a well respected and deep source of news and views on animated topics, writes on our Forum Pages that he is hosting a special event at the Academy Of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences tomorrow night which will include a rare, one off screening of Walt Disney’s Victory Through Air Power. The showing is likely to be the last chance to see this film on the big screen before it’s debut on DVD in December as part of the Walt Disney Treasures: On The Front Lines DVD.

Check out his post for details. There is more at the AMPAS Official Site and recently The Laughing Place.com ran an interview with Mr Beck promoting the event, which also showcases shorts of the era from other studios including Warners and Columbia.

Having seen Victory Through Air Power many years ago, it made a lasting impression on me and contains some of the most striking imagery in a Disney film from any of the Studio’s output. With additional guests, legendary animators Bill Justice and Joe Grant, also making appearances and only a $5 admission fee ($3 for students!), anyone in the area should make an effort to attend this one-of-a-kind event. If there was a way I could beam myself from London to Los Angeles, I’d be there in a flash!
