‘Guardstone’ in the Animated News Forum lets us know about a story on Yahoo News, originally from Variety, which looks at next year’s animated short subject category and whom we might see in the running. The interesting article also touches more on Pixar’s mysterious short Boundin’, as well as Sony’s Early Bloomer (which played with Daddy Day Care in theaters, and Blue Sky’s Gone Nutty (which won the L.A. Short Film Festival, but was created initially for the Ice Age DVD, thus prompting the notion, as with Mike’s New Car on the Monsters, Inc disc: should it really contend?). The real question is, of course, how will Disney handle Destino, the Walt/Dali short begun in 1946, and recently completed by a team headed by Roy Disney? It’s going to be an “interesting” animation awards season, to be sure!
