The forum at the Big Cartoon DataBase has a new report on an Oregonian scientist who has bred his very own ToMacco plant (a blend of tomato and tobacco), inspired by the Simpsons episode #AABF19, “E-I-E-I-(Annoyed Grunt),” from a couple years back. In our increasingly smoke-free world one wonders what use it is to breed such a plant or what the effects of breathing in second-hand smoke from it might be, but if there is a way to emulate an outlandish situation from The Simpsons then somebody is bound to find a way to do it and if the plant grows in popularity then Philip Morris may go back to claiming that cigarettes are healthy and the ATF may soon have to become The Bureau for Alcohol, ToMacco, and Firearms.
Additionally, Animation Blast recently updated with a link to an article on the Institute of Physics website that compares the lifestyles of Homer and Bart Simpson to find out which one is more healthy. While it is clear that Bart is no health food guru (“Krusty-O’s Cereal with Free Jagged Metal Krusty-O In Every Box,” anyone?), it seems to me that you don’t need to approach the issue very scientifically to realize that Homer’s lifestyle is the most unhealthy one, especially if you take into account that episode where he ate all those doughnuts in hell.
