Some loved it, some hated it, but Warner Brothers’ last attempt at putting the Looney Tunes on the big screen, which was supposed to hit disc today, has been pushed back to October 28th to coincide with the release of the classic Looney Tunes box sets. Space Jam, from 1996, has been issued on disc twice before – both only in pan-and-scan transfers. This new edition fixes that, with a new anamorphic transfer. From the previous “Enhanced” edition comes the Bugs Bunny/Daffy Duck commentary featuring director Joe Pytka, the theatrical trailer, 22 minute featurette and two music videos: Seal’s “Fly Like an Eagle” and the Monstars Anthem “Hit ‘Em High”. Missing from the previous disc is an isolated music track and R Kelly’s “I Believe I Can Fly” video.
Reasons to go for this? Well, disc 2 features a line up of recent Looney Tunes cartoons: Another Froggy Evening (1998, directed by Chuck Jones), Invasion Of The Bunny Snatchers from 1992, Night Of The Living Duck (1988), The Duxorcist (1987) and Bugs Vs. Daffy: Battle Of The Music Video Stars, a TV special from 1998. Not vintage Looneys, but these shorts are unlikely to feature on any future compilation and some fans may feel it’s nice to have them in one place. DVD File has the first review online, while DVD Toons has full specs.
