Though details and rumored specs for the 2-disc DVD re-issue of Disney’s Alice In Wonderland: The Masterpiece Edition have been floating around the web recently, DVD File has listed the final specs for the disc over the weekend.
Alice is due for release on January 27th with a suggested retail price of $29.95, and we have more info on those specs here:
Apart from the new set-top games (the heavily advertised “Virtual Wonderland Party” is even listed as a reason to buy on the front cover artwork), the overall set looks to be a port over from the deluxe CAV LaserDisc pressing from the mid-1990s: remastered 1.33:1 full screen transfer, Dolby Digital 5.1 remix, all-new introductions, song demos (one of the Jabberwocky songs will be here), and an art gallery including abandoned concepts and deleted storyboards. New to the DVD are two sing-alongs and “Adventures In Wonderland” activities.
Of most interest to Disney fans will be the inclusion from the LaserDisc of the TV specials “One Hour in Wonderland” (Walt’s small screen debut from Christmas Day 1950, a combination between the Package Features of the 40s and the later DisneyLand show) and “The Fred Waring Show”, which for anyone who has seen it will remain a hiliarious tribute to the wonders of early 1950s live television. A real boon, also on the earlier LD, is the Alice Comedy “Alice’s Wonderland” (the very first, from 1923, though unless a new print has been found this is likely to cut the very end shots off due to them being lost) and theatrical trailers. A bonus Mickey Mouse cartoon from 1936, “Thru The Mirror”, is also presented, as well as Walt’s TV introductions, and from the previous DVD release comes the vintage “Operation Wonderland” featurette from 1951.
LaserDisc owners will want to hold onto their sets for the multitude of other LD included materials, including extensive stills, isolated music and effects track and over two and a half hours of additional audio featuring radio dramatizations with Disney and Kathryn Beaumont, that have not (yet?) been announced. Alice is due for release on January 27th with a suggested retail price of $29.95.
