Video Business Online reports that Disney’s Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl has sold over 11 million units during its first week in stores, making the Studio a favorite with retailers, especially after the success of Finding Nemo and “catalog” hits such as Sleeping Beauty and The Lion King. Now officially the “fasted selling live-action title in history”, an “overwhelming” 90% of the units Pirates shifted were from DVD sales, further pushing the format forward and proving that buyers prefer the widescreen, 2-disc approach to movies on disc. And there’s still the remade Freaky Friday to come, on December 16th, which will no doubt add to Disney’s Christmas coffers!
