Famous French comic book artist Enki Bilal is directing a CG adaptation of his Nikopol trilogy (La foire aux immortels, 1980, La femme piège, 1986, and Froid Equateur, 1992). Set in a futuristic Paris where ancient Egyptian gods come back to life, Immortel (Ad Vitam) is scheduled for a March 2004 release and wll star Yann Collette, Thomas Kretschmann, Frédéric Pierrot and Charlotte Ramplin. Bilal is not new to directing. His credits include Tykho Moon (1996) and Bunker Palace Hôtel (1989). A teaser for the movie is available at Cinemovies.
Enki Bilal was born 1951 in Belgrade and came 1960 to Paris. His first story Le Bol Maudit was published 1972 in the French magazine Pilote. In this utopian history Bilal proved already his sensitive and matured talent. In 1975 he started with La Croisière of the Oubliés his fruitful and long-standing co-operation with Pierre Christin. The first story which he has written and drawn completely himself called La Foire aux Immortels came out in 1981. The considerable success in France had granted and acknowledged him as one of the most interesting authors of the eighties. In 1983 he made scene designs for the film La Vie est un Roman for the French director Alain Resnais.
