Animation Magazine has the scoop on why DreamWorks’ Sinbad: Legend Of The Seven Seas was not on the list of films eligible for the Best Animated Feature Film Oscar. Ann Daly, head of feature animation at DreamWorks, told Animation Magazine Online, “In light of the fact that Sinbad was clearly a commercial disappointment, although we stand behind the extraordinary artistic achievement of the creative team behind the movie, we decided that it was the best decision not to enter it in the Oscar race”. This seems like an odd decision considering the fact that Disney’s Treasure Planet was also a critical and commercial failure but still snagged a nomination in the animation category last year.
