ComingSoon.net has the scoop on casting for Disney’s upcoming animated feature Chicken Little. Zach Braff (currently starring in NBC’s Scrubs as Dr. “JD” Dorian), will voice the title character. Others in the cast include Joan Cusack as the ugly duckling, Steve Zahn as a pig named Runt, Amy Sedaris as Foxy Loxy, Katie Finneran as Goosey Lucy, Don Knotts as Turkey Mayor, and Garry Marshall as Father.

Braff’s casting marks yet another change in gender for the title character. The role was originally written as a male. Then Jim Hill reported earlier this year that head of Disney Animation David Stainton “ordered that – in order to make the movie’s central character more sympathetic – that the filmmakers change Chicken Little from a boy to a girl”. Braff’s casting apparently means Chicken Little is male again.

ComingSoon.net adds that the “story centers on Chicken Little’s wildly active imagination and tendency to overreact. He causes an uproar in his town when he pronounces that ‘the sky is falling down,’ which winds up getting him shipped off to a special camp where he meets other animals with challenges of their own”.
