The IMDB today reports an upswing in the recent box office slump of the summer, with Peter Jackson’s Return Of The King perhaps unsurprisingly leading the way (for a total gross, in 2003 alone, of $224 million). The much heralded Peter Pan, at the other end of the spectrum, has only managed to pull in total of just $15.1 million so far, a major disappointment for its three studio backers, Universal, Sony and Revolution, while Elf continues to run on strong legs. Figures for animation-related films over the past holiday weekend look like this:

1 – The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King – $51.2 million
7 – Peter Pan – $11.4 million
10 – Elf – $4.3 million
