‘Nicolas’ on the Animated News Forum lets us know that Les Triplettes De Belleville “will be released in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on the 19th of December. The film’s release is a limited one, only playing in its original version at ‘Le Parisien’. The english version will probably soon follow for us non-French Canadians. I, for one, cannot wait to see it!” Apart from some very minor cosmetic changes to some billboards and the main title within the film, the rest of the film (all four lines of dialogue) is in French even in the English edition anyway – so don’t let that stop you seeing this amazing film.

In related news, Belleville has been racking up accolades, including beating Finding Nemo for the top award of Best Animated Feature from the New York Film Critics Circle. Animation World Network also announces that “the French import also took home the Best Foreign Language film prize from the Boston Film Critics. Even more impressive was Belleville‘s director Sylvain Chomet’s runner-up acknowledgement for Best New Filmmaker from the Bean Town critics”.

Also of note: the UK BBC2 TV showing of the film, which we reported here, has been changed (along with a few other initial listings – please see your local times for complete schedules). Belleville Rendezvouz will now play in a much more prestigious slot, on Christmas Day, 25th December, at 7pm.
