Perhaps more known for his infamous animated features Fritz The Cat and the recently DVD-issued live-action/cartoon combo Cool World, director Ralph Bakshi remains an interesting figure on the fringe. Now, The Digital Bits Rumor Mill announces that he is down to record an audio commentary for his 1977 fantasy Wizards, “due next year from Fox”, according to The Bits. Featuring the voice of Mark Hamill (who in the same year would make more of a mark for himself in a little film you may have heard of: Star Wars), the film made “creative” uses of footage from films such as Zulu and Patton to rotoscope the war-like actions of its characters in shadow, a technique Bakshi would also use in the later Fire And Ice and the animated The Lord Of The Rings. Audiences and fans are still divided on much of his work, though this DVD debut of Wizards, which has only been available on home video in a long out of print VHS release and an early LaserDisc (pictured right), will provide a fresh perspective.
