Filmax’s feature El Cid, La Leyenda will hit theaters in Spain this month. The movie is based on the life of 11th century adventurer Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar, better known as El Cid, and narrates Rodrigo’s royal upbringing, his unjust exile and his quest to receive the King’s pardon. Entirely produced by Barcelona based Filmax Animation, El Cid is an ambitious project technically rivaling the best American productions. The popularity of the character in Spain, along with the planned marketing push, should guarantee a good success for the movie. The story touches on interesting themes, like the importance of tolerance among different cultures and religions. The friendship between Rodrigo and the muslim prince Al-Mutamin is especially touching in light of the current events. An extended trailer is available from the movie’s official page.
