Who lives in a pineapple on the big screen? SpongeBob SquarePants! Paramount Pictures has announced that they are officially moving forward with a second theatrical film based on the hit cartoon series, THR.com is saying. “We will be releasing a SpongeBob movie at the end of 2014, which will serve to start off or be one of our films that starts off our new animation effort,” the Viacom CEO Philippe Dauman said. The film is part of the studio’s plan to release animated movies each year with production budgets of less than $100 million. SpongeBob’s first 2004 film, The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, was a reasonable box office hit, earning $85 million in the states, but Paramount is hoping for even better returns this time given the character’s rise in popularity over the last decade.
