Three years after its cancellation on Fox, the animated TV series Futurama has been picked up by Comedy Central, Comingsoon.net reports. The cable network has ordered thirteen new episodes which are slated to begin airing in 2008, and will bring the total number of series episodes to 85. Creators Matt Groening and David X. Cohen will return as well as lead actors Billy West, Katey Sagal and John DiMaggio. Reuters adds that senior vice president for programming David Bernath said, “We are thrilled that Matt Groening and 20th Century Fox Television have decided to produce new episodes of Futurama and that Comedy Central will be the first to air them. There is a deep and passionate fan base for this intelligent and very funny show that matches perfectly with our audience, and it is great that we can offer them not just the existing library but something they’ve never seen as well”.
