Post subject: 3x Timon and Pumbaa DVDs!
PostPosted: February 28th, 2005, 10:24 am
A series of Timon and Pumbaa DVDs appear to be cropping up here in the UK - not that I'm complaining....

Currently, 'Around the World with Timon And Pumbaa' is available with 6 episodes of the series on it. I've learnt today that there are two more titles to be released.

'Dining out with Timon and Pumbaa' reads 'Set sail for France in 'French Fried' as the evil chef, Quint, tries to turn their snail friend into a tasty entree of escargot. It's on with the show and the dance tights when Pumba has to perform with the 'Boarshoi' ballet in 'Russia Hour'. Then, it's off 'To Killimanjaro Bird' where the feathers fly when Timon and Pumbaa baby-sit a little eagle. Last stop, the U.S.A. in 'Rocky Mountain Lie'. Pumbaa makes friends with a stinkbug...that is, until Timon mistakes it for a grub and eats it!' 6 episodes

and

'On Holiday With Timon And Pumbaa' reads 'First destination - Africa. In 'Kenya Be My Friend', Timon and Pumbaa forget how to be friends when Timon forgets 'Bestest Best Friend Day'. In 'South Sea Sick', Timon plays doctor when Pumbaa eats a bad bug - but the cure may kill first. Then in 'Uganda Be An Elephant', Pumbaa learns he's happy just being himself after he tries to be one of the more popular animals in the jungle. Then, it's off to Central America in 'How To Beat The High Costa Rica'. A crook and his money are soon parted when Timon and Pumbaa try to recover stolen money from the evil bank robber, Quint.' 6 episodes

At only £9.99 (www.play.com) and released on March 14th, I can't resist them. This is the closest you can get to owning the series which, unless you know different, is unlikely to see the light of day in a full series release?!?

And the best thing about the "Around The World" disc (if it sticks to the program that appeared on a VHS release in the 1990s) is that it contains Steve Moore's brilliant short "Stand By Me", which I was hoping for on the recent Lion King spin off editions, to no avail.

Worth the price for these hilarious two minutes alone! :)

I believe this was an early Canadian short, a tester by the folks who did Lion King II to make sure they could handle it.

Such a shame it never wound up on any of the Lion King DVDs, since the version on the Timon And Pumbaa video was shorn of its original credits.

Hey Justin... when you get this, let us know if that short is to be found in there, right? :)

Yeah the musical short IS on the DVD [ Some pics here: http://www.justinwilliams.co.uk/tap ] - it's great! Have never seen it before. Considering the DVD cost just £6.99 inc. shipping I am very pleased with this...Plus there was a trailer and footage of the Ducktales Movie which I remember for years ago...

Yep - that's the one. Genius, isn't it??

BTW, DuckTales The Movie: Treasure Of The Lost Lamp is also available in the UK on region two DVD:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASI ... 82-2976649

Rumors are that this will come to region one sometime this year as a catalog, no frills title, but no announcement so far...

When will Disney start releasing complete season sets of its animated series? So far every TV release has been a mishmash of random episodes (most recently "Timon & Pumbaa" and "Winnie the Pooh"). The only complete set they've done is Season 1 of "Gargoyles" (their best series ever, btw) and I'm eagerly awaiting Season 2 (no news yet, though).
