The Nut Job opens

The Nut Job[1], the first animated offering from Open Road Films, opens today in a weekend leading 3,427 theatres according to Box Office Mojo[2]. The film is being hammered by the critics, with a measly 12% rating at Rotten Tomatoes[3]. Their critical consensus: “Hampered by an unlikable central character and source material stretched too thin to cover its brief running time, The Nut Job will provoke an allergic reaction in all but the least demanding moviegoers”. BOM[4] projects a fifth place box office take of $12.7 million – just $1.5 million more than they expect it’s main competition, Frozen now in its eighth week, to bring in.
