Dragon 2 still not quite taking flight at box office

Despite strong critical reception and being pretty much the only animated movie playing in theaters right now, How to Train Your Dragon 2 has more or less underwhelmed at the box office so far, Collider[1] is reporting. As the site points out, the movie is on track to cross the $100 million mark by Tuesday (which is nothing to sneeze at), but with no Pixar film this year, many were expecting for Dragon 2 to be one of the biggest movies of the summer, if not the biggest. One thing that’s possibly getting in its way is the PG-rated Maleficent doing a lot better than many predicted, with the Angelina Jolie fairy tale now on track for a $200 million+ finish. Still, Disney’s Planes: Fire and Rescue doesn’t open until mid-July, so Dragon 2 does have at least some time to do decent business until then.
