Yes, that was Tim Curry you heard on Star Wars: The Clone Wars

Last week’s episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars was not just the conclusion to the show’s fifth season, but it was also the first to feature veteran actor Tim Curry as the evil Palpatine. Giant Freaking Robot[1] is reporting that the reason for this is that Ian Abercrombie, who had been voicing the character since 2008, passed away last year, causing the need for a replacement. “We had an extensive search to find a new voice for Palpatine,” said series supervising producer Dave Filoni. “At the end of the day, there is little question that bringing in an actor of Tim’s caliber was perfect for Chancellor Palpatine… His growling, evil, Sidious voice is a delight, because Tim can definitely tap into the dark side when needed.” Star Wars: The Clone Wars is expected to start airing on DisneyXD whenever it begins its next season.
