It was expected to be the summer of Iron Man and Superman, but it’s also proven to be the summer of the Minion. After just a few weeks, Despicable Me 2 has crossed the $300 million mark, Box Office Mojo[1] is reporting. The sequel is now the sixth highest grossing animated movies of all time, behind only Shrek The Third, Finding Nemo, Toy Story 3, The Lion King, and Shrek 2. Unfortunately, Chinese audiences will not be able to see the latest antics of Gru and his army of Minions, as the movie has been banned there[2]. The reasons for this are unknown, but it’s unlikely that it has anything to do with the film’s content, and more likely because the government wants its audience to focus on China-produced animated fare, including instant classics such as Happy Submarine 3: Quest for the Rainbow Treasure.
