Andrew Stanton discusses John Carter’s box office

Several months after its theatrical run, Andrew Stanton recently spoke with the LA Times[1] about the box office results for his first live-action feature, John Carter. In the interview, he talks about the film’s production problems, as well as the controversial marketing campaign that the movie was given. He also says that, despite internet rumors that report otherwise, John Carter’s box office results had nothing to do with him agreeing to direct a Finding Nemo 2 for Pixar. “The ennui you have after a huge success when it’s all over is exactly the same as the ennui you have when it’s a bomb,” he said. “You’ve spent every waking moment thinking about its birth, worrying about it, raising it. It’s an empty nest syndrome. Whether your kid went to college or went to jail, it’s an empty nest.”
