Rio flies to best opening of 2011

Blue Sky Animation’s Rio spread its wings at the box office in a big way this weekend, earning about $40 million according to studio estimates[1]. It made twice as much as this weekend’s other opener, the horror thriller Scream 4, which made only $19 million despite a solid ammount of hype surrounding its release. If estimates hold up, Rio scored the best opening weekend of 2011 so far, beating both Rango and Hop. So far, Rio has made more than $128 million worldwide.
