Record breaking weekend for Alice in Wonderland

The combination of Tim Burton, Johnny Depp and a classic story proved to be a big draw for audiences this weekend, with Disney’s Alice in Wonderland claiming a number of records during its opening. At an estimated $116 million[1], it easily took the crown for best March opening of all time, surpassing the $71 million take made by 300 in 2007. It was also the best opening ever for Tim Burton, the 6th best opening weekend of all time, and Disney’s best opening for a movie of any kind that wasn’t in their Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.
