Bill Plympton, the celebrated cartoonist and Oscar-nominated director, has announced the exclusive engagement of his Terry Gilliam sponsored animated feature Idiots And Angels, a black comedy about a man’s battle with his wings and his soul, will open at the IFC Center in New York on Wednesday, October 6th. Bill’s award-winning cartoon short The Cow That Wanted To be A Hamburger will play with the film. Full details may be read here:
NEW SHORT THE COW THAT WANTED TO BE A HAMBURGER TO ACCOMPANY SCREENINGS FROM OCTOBER 6
Bill Plympton, a MOCCA Art Festival, Cartoonist of the Year and legendary Oscar-nominated Director, announces the exclusive engagement of his Terry Gilliam sponsored, animated feature film: “Idiots and Angels” (a black comedy about a man’s battle with his wings and his soul), opens at the IFC Center in New York on Wednesday, October 6th. Screenings of “Idiots and Angels” (run time 78 mins.) will be preceded by Plympton’s new, multi-award winning animated short film: “The Cow Who Wanted to Be a Hamburger”, which won the grand prize for animation at the Florida Film Festival.
Bill Plympton will make personal appearances at the last screening of the day on Wednesday, October 6th and Thursday, October 7th, followed by a Q & A.

Plympton, received his first Oscar® Nomination for “Your Face” (1988) and his second Oscar® Nomination for “Guard Dog” (2005). His latest short film, “The Cow Who Wanted to Be a Hamburger” (run time 5 minutes 50 seconds), will open at the IFC Center in New York on Wednesday, October 6th, with screenings of his animated feature film “Idiots and Angels”.
Plympton said: “The Cow Who Wanted to Be a Hamburger” was produced over the course of his 2009 Animation Class during the 1st semester. He used the film as an instruction tool in his class and it inspired feedback from his students. Bill’s little nephew showed the film to his first-grade class in Florida. The class wrote Bill a wonderful group letter, accompanied by a nice drawing from each child. Plympton said: “Basically kids love this short film. It appeals to children of all ages and also adults get a huge kick out of it!”
“The Cow Who Wanted to Be a Hamburger” is a unique children’s comic fable about the power advertising has over your mind. The unusual hero that steps forward is the young cow’s mother. She is a testament to and epitomizes the extraordinary bond of a mother’s love for her child. “The Cow Who Wanted to Be a Hamburger” has been entered for an Academy Award Nomination for 2011.
